Scope
SCA returned to Rydal Park in 2024 to develop a comprehensive master plan of the existing kitchen and dining program. The existing dining space had become too small and outdated for the current demand of residents. Spatial flow in the kitchen was not optimized, and much of the kitchen equipment had become outdated. SCA was brought in to evaluate the existing conditions of the space and develop solutions that more closely meet the needs of the residents and staff. The proposed program involves a reconfigured main dining room, an efficiently laid out kitchen and staff area, as well as new dining venues such as a fast-casual bistro, a bar and lounge, and an outdoor patio. Accessibility and efficiency were the driving factors of the proposal, including adequate space for residents using a wheelchair or walker, and the inclusion of storage areas to facilitate a valet-style service for those using wheelchairs or walkers.
